Sometimes the above site will indicate an error but it wasn't a total system problem yesterday and it didn't show any issue when I checked. Still, sometimes with these things you just have to wait a bit and see if it clears up. It can also help to report it to Apple the way I suggested so they realize there is an issue. There were many users with this problem yesterday but if nobody reports it then how is Apple to know there's an issue? It seemed to only affect certain groups.
My daughter experienced the same on her iPhone 6 today and tried everything you did with no luck. Works on all other devices in our house but hers is the only 6th gen device.
I spent two hours on-line with Apple support and one hour at the "Genius" Bar today and still my computer won't recognize my iPod. WTH?
After following the steps to restore iOS, problem was still occurring. Now 12+ hours later, iTunes app is working. Go figure.
