Find people I don’t know to Apple Watch

With Fitbit I used to be able to take part in community challenges and find people who I don’t know to add as friends. Is that possible with Apple Watch? I only know 2 people with watches and I would like to compete with others.

Not helpful. This is again assuming I am adding or competing with people I know already. I want to add more people who I am not already friends with because I only know 2 people with Apple Watches. Thanks.
