Using old iMac 2011 as an external monitor

I have a new MacBook Pro and I want to use my old iMac from 2011 as an external monitor. I have the cable and have tried using Command F2 on the bluetooth keyboard for the old Mac but nothing happens. Any suggestions on how to get it to work?

Connecting old iMac to new 24" iMac as Secondary Monitor I have a new 24" Mac, and I want to connect my old, 2010-vintage iMac as a second monitor. I have the Thunderbolt cable and adapter. I no longer have the original wireless keyboard from the old iMac but can connect the new Magic keyboard with a Lightning cable and it works well. Is the new iMac 2021 computer compatible with my MacBook Pro? Hi, I want to purchase and use the new iMac 2021 as a monitor for my MacBook pro. The previous iMac 2019 model was NOT compatible. To attempt to make it compatible a user had to purchase a 3rd party sw Bluetooth USB add-on tool and it was a glitch festival. I just want my apple experience back in the form of a monitor that works with my laptop. Will the new iMac work with my MacBook pro???? Thank you, Carolina

Hi NHBBooks,

Sorry, 2020 and newer Macs are not compatible with Target Display Mode. It won't work.
