I looked in my Contact Groups, and despite deleting the Robokiller app and unsubscribing by following every required step, there is a listing there for a Robokiller group in my contacts. How do I get rid of this pervasive app for good?

If we're understanding correctly, it seems that a third-party app you had downloaded added a group for itself in your Contacts apps. If this is true and the group is listed underneath iCloud, you can remove it by following the steps in Delete or change a group of contacts on iCloud.com.
If it's listed underneath another mail account instead, you'll have to remove it from your mail provider's webmail to access your contacts there.
