iPad won’t recognize Bluetooth headphones

I have WH-XB900N Sony Bluetooth headphones and my iPad Pro (4th gen) will not acknowledge that the headphones are available for pairing. They won’t show up in the devices available section. They pair just fine with my phone so I know it’s not the headphones.

Both devices are at 100% charge and I am wearing the headphones when I try to pair them so I can hear it say if it has paired (which has never happened with my iPad yet.) I have been unable to pair these two devices since I bought my iPad approx 1 year ago. Here are the solutions I have attempted. I have restarted both devices; I have completed all software updates; I have cleared the Bluetooth cache; I have disconnected all Bluetooth devices by turning the Bluetooth off and back on again; I have reset my network to factory defaults. I have also tried the Sony headphones connect app and the headphones never show up on the list there either to be selected and connected. I don’t know what else to do.

Hello Fantasminity and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

You've taken some great troubleshooting steps to attempt to resolve this Bluetooth issue with your iPad Pro. If your iPad is able to connect normally to other Bluetooth devices, and your headphones don't have any difficulties connecting to your iPhone it sounds like it is a specific problem with the connection between the two of them. Have you been able to pair these headphones with any other iPad before? It is possible that they might not be compatible with the iPadOS on your iPad Pro and we'd recommend contacting Sony to verify that.

If these headphones are set to be compatible with the iPadOS currently running on your device, you may want to reach out to Apple Support so they can look into this further with you. You can use the link below to see your available support options.
