If Safe Mode worked, then it most likely means you have some third party software installed that is interfering with normal macOS operations. Usually apps like anti-virus apps, cleaning apps, and third party security software will cause this type of problem. If you have these types of apps installed, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions as these types of apps are not needed on a Mac.

I've just bought the new iMac 24". When I need to download apps like WhatsApp of HP Smart printer software, it says that I need to install Rosetta. When I clicked 'Install', the message pops up saying 'Unable to check for updates, Make sure you are connected to the internet'. I have restarted the iMac a few times, restarted my router, tried different Wi-Fi network, connected even to LAN, and yet the same message appeared. I have no problems accessing the internet like YouTube etc. I need a solution too!

Hi HWTech. Your advice was really good! I went into Safe Mode. I clicked on one app which prompted a Rosetta installation to which I agreed. This was a successful operation! Next it asked to update my app software. Thereafter, the non-Apple app was able to open! Then I went on doing the same with every non-Apple app, and they all worked! The trick was to get Rosetta installed first and it's only done once.

The other interesting point was that I could not even update my macOS before I got into the Safe Mode, as I got the same message about not being connected to the internet. Now I can get to update my macOS even outside of Safe Mode.

Thank you for really giving me an excellent advice! Much appreciate it!
