How do I know if I can update to a higher operating system? I have an old MacProG5 2010, souped up a bit, operating on High Sierra.

Mac Pro, macOS 10.13

FWIW, there was no Mac Pro G5, 2010 or otherwise.

You may be able to install Mojave if you have the appropriate graphics card.

Mac Pro (Late 2013; Mid 2010 and Mid 2012 models with recommended Metal-capable graphics cards)

Tried installing Mojave but prompted that the App was damaged which came from the Apple store.

Assuming you have a compatible graphics card…

Delete "Install macOS Mojave" from the Applications folder. Download again while in Safe Mode.
