Normally when I click with one finger and then move the curser with another figure over text, it highlights the text (and becomes copy/past-able etc.)
It stopped working. None of the options under 'Touchpad' make any difference, and none of the options under 'Pointer Control' make any difference.
This is a NEW Mac!

We are happy to help with the issue you are having with your MacBook Pro. You mentioned you checked your Touchpad settings. Do you normally use a three-finger gesture? You might want to take a look at that specific setting. Turn on three finger drag for your Mac trackpad here.
You might want to try a restart. If you still can't see the options for copy/paste you could try to Start up your Mac in safe mode and see if the same thing happens.
