When you launch the Terminal, it will also open with the Zsh shell. As long as there is no activity in the Terminal window, the UNIX kernel will sleep the Terminal and Zsh shell until there is activity (you enter something) in the Terminal. Typing a control+d will exit the existing Zsh shell and render the current Terminal session useless until you quit the Terminal and relaunch it.
All that gibberish on top of your Terminal window is configurable, and in my case, I find it distracting and only have the Terminal name (default) on its title bar. In Terminal Preferences, mine looks like this:
