Most mornings I'm meeting with restart notifications the start like this:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8011ea2233): "PowerOff timed out in phase 'Notifying power plane drivers'.
How do I best investigate/resolve? Any pointers to next steps to fix appreciated.

Post the entire panic log I the Additional Text area (document icon in toolbar)
Or, just look at the loaded kexts section of the panic log. If there are any not provided by Apple, they are a likely cause.
Since no third-party kernel extensions were involved, it may be a hardware fault.
That could be something internal or something with the SSD or the cable used (or any Hubs, converters, etc).
See if it panics without the external SSD attached.

Hi - successfully uninstalled the portable SSD app via osascript. Shutdown Mac last night and screen turned off but after logging in this morning got a further panic attack report as attached
Uninstall this following the developer's instructions or their uninstaller.
