Backing up Books and access to PDFs on PC

I’ve been using Books on my iPad for my volunteary work as scientific consultant in a patient of organization.

I have gathered a lot of scientific articles which I have downloaded as PDFs to Books from various resources. I’ve also spend a great time making annotations and organizing the PDFs into various collections, so I can easily find relevant stuff again.

I have two requirements which I am uncertain is meet by Apple Books.

  1. I like to make sure that my PDFs are backed up safely in the case of me losing my iPad.

Does all my PDFs get backed up to my PC you when using iTunes to back up my iPad ?

If so I can not seem to find them.

When turning on iCloud for books, does that mean that the PDFs get backed up.

Nevertheless, I can not find them when logging into my iCloud.com account which have photos and iCloud Drive but no Books ?

2: Being able to access the PDFs on my PC syncing annotations and collection/folder structure.

is this at all possible?

Best regards from Lars 🤗
