AirPrint is how you print on an iPad or iPhone without vendor drivers.

This unless the vendor provides some other app for that, as some do.

HP offers many printers, with overlapping identities and names, and sometimes very different printers with the same number.

AirPrint is the only way to print from an iOS device. If you have an AirPrint compatible printer it should appear when you choose Print in the Share menu (the box with an up arrow) from any app that supports printing. If you have more than one AirPrint compatible printer on your Wi-Fi network all of them should appear.

Is there an app for your printer that will allow you to use a WiFi connection between your phone and the printer? That should work if you don’t have an AirPrint printer.

You need to change the Wi-Fi settings on the printer to use the private hotspot.
