Linking Spotify

I’m trying to link Spotify to my HomePod with Siri autonomy is that possible or do I have to use my iPhone for instructions?

See Play audio using Siri on HomePod - Apple Support and the section Add a music service to HomePod. You should also be able to use a command such as “Hey Siri, play The 1975 on Spotify”.
