Java Control Panel

Dear All,

I have a Mac with MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 installed, where I have Installed Java JDK v16.0.1.

I remember I could access the Java Control Panel from the System Preferences, but now the Java icon seems disappeared and I cannot find it anywhere, not even in the Application Folder.

Can someone help me to find it please?

Many Thanks

Dear All,

apparently Java doesn't provide anymore a Control Panel and to know which version of Java you are running you need to use the Terminal app:

1) To know which version of JRE you are running in your system you need to type:

/Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version

2) To know which version of JDK you are running in your system you need to type:

java -version

Having installed the JRE and not having need of JDK, I wanted uninstall it but I couldn't find the way, because the uninstallation tool provided by Java is working only with JRE.

Does anyone know the instructions to uninstall JDK keeping JRE in the system please?

Many thanks and kind regards

Dear All,

I run a bit off topic, but at the end I think It could be useful to end it without a question mark.

I found the way how to uninstall the JDK from the Mac system.

Firstly you can see all the specific versions of JDK installed in your system using the following command in the Terminal:

cd /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines

and then typing ls

At this point take note of the JDK version you want to delete and type:

sudo rm -rf jdk-x.x.x.jdk

For example, in my case, I had installed both JDK 16.0.1 and JDK 11.0.5, so I uninstalled the last one typing:

sudo rm -rf jdk-11.0.5.jdk

Many thanks

Hi a Brody,

thanks for your reply.

I installed, via the link you posted, Java 8 Update 291.

Unfortunately I still cannot find the way how to launch the Java Control Panel; there is no icon in System Preferences.

I made a Search and I found the file "JavaAppletPlugin.plugin" in the "Internet Plug-Ins/Library/Macintosh Hd" folder, so I think the installation was successfull.

Have you got any idea on where I can find the Java Control Panel?

Kind Regards
