Sharing numbers with people you don’t have saved in your phone.

Is it possible to share a contact with someone who you do not have saved in your phone? I talk to a lot of people for work and don’t want to save all their numbers, but I need to share other people’s numbers with them. Having to memorize one of the numbers is annoying.

Thank you Lawrence.

I’m actually not trying to associate numbers with names. I’m just trying to share a contact with someone who’s number I have not saved. If someone asks me to recommend a plumber to them, I want to be able to share the plumber’s contact information without saving the number of the person who asked for it. Currently I am memorizing the plumbers number and typing it into a text. I can only share his contact information if I save the number of the person who asked for it.

I do have the plumber’s number saved, I just can’t figure out how to share it with someone who I do not have saved. When I hit share contact on the plumber it has people from my recent conversations, but the number I do not have saved does not appear.

I try to add the plumbers contact info through the text conversation I am having with the person looking for a plumber, but “Conatcts” is not in the list of apps you can pick to share something from.

I guess the most convenient way would be able to share the plumber’s contact information in the conversation I am having with the person looking for said info.

sorry you just clarified, you want to share a saved contact with someone not in your contacts? I thought you were trying to remember the plumbers number?

Share the contact while in the contacts app, tap messages, then type the recipients number in the To field.

The share menu is for sharing something from the app you are currently in, not to grab something from another app.

Short of keeping a list of numbers in a a text document or a note, the only way to have numbers associated with names is to create contacts for them. If you have a work email account you can save them to the contact list for your work email and keep those contacts separate from your personal contacts saved with a personal email such as your Apple ID or an iCloud email.

The built in contacts app in iOS is not good at this; you need a 3rd party app such as Groups to manage separate groups of contacts, or, if you sync to iCloud, you can manage the groups at https://icloud.com or, if you have a Mac, the built in Mac Contacts app.

Sharing numbers with people you don’t have saved in your phone.
