iCloud Backup on iPhone X is taking forever

Hi all - I got a new iPhone recently and have been trying to backup my iPhone X for 2 days now. It's always connected to wifi, always charging, up to date, and I purchased the 2TB so I have plenty of space. When I start a backup it will give me a time anywhere from 8 min, 6 hours, 19 hours, then 8 hours - so the estimates never make sense. A few times it has timed out of the backup itself and another time I canceled it because it had literally been 12 hours.

The only thing I can think of that might be the issue is that it says my last backup was in 2018 (I'm not sure why this is, I had auto backup turned on) and I have a lot of pictures. I don't really care about backing up anything other than my pictures and messages and maybe my contacts.

Any tips or ideas are appreciated.

It going to take a long time to backup to icloud, since the last one was 3 years ago.

when you go to sleep, connect to wifi, plug phone to power source, start the backup, lock the device and let it do its thing.
