iPhone X auto lock failure because of the car's bluetooth

I found my iphone failed to auto lock right after I disconnected from my car's bluetooth.

Before it connected to my car's bluetooth, it works perfectly.

This issue happens constantly, so I assume it is an IOS bug.

I have tried resetting the IOS, I have tried updating it to IOS14.5 since IOS13-ish(I can't really remember), it just keeps happening.

If I don't connect to my car, there is no problem.

Hey there Edward,

We'd like to help get your iPhone screen to lock without any issues.

As the exact issue is unclear, we'd like to confirm some details, along with ruling out some possible causes:

  1. You mentioned having iOS 14.5, but the latest is iOS 14.6. You can verify the version number installed within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. You also mentioned 'resetting the iOS', but we're unsure of what this means. Did you mean you restored it as new(not from a backup) using a computer? If not, what exact steps did you take?
  3. Regarding it not locking after pairing with your car stereo via Bluetooth, what exactly did you mean by this? What happens when you press the Lock button on the side of your iPhone while paired with your car stereo? The more details you can provide, the better equipped we'll be to help.
  4. Does this same issue occur if you pair your iPhone with another Bluetooth accessory?

We look forward to hearing about all of these details. Take care!

Hello Edward,

Thanks for those details, as it clears up what's happening. You've also tried some great steps already!

While we don't recommend erasing your iPhone at this time, we also recommend backing up then updating to iOS 14.6 as suggested. Here's the link again just in case: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the same issue remains afterwards, we recommend reaching out to Apple Support and let them know the details above in this post. You can reach them using this link: Get Support

Have a good one!

Thank you for your reply Eric,

1, I really would not upgrade IOS anymore as it slows down my device. I have had this issue since maybe from IOS 14.0 or even 13.5. I cannot really remember the exact version because in the past I have always set the Auto-Lock to "Never", therefore I could not notice the issue until I set it to "30 Seconds" later on at some point. However, once I found this issue, and if there is a new version of IOS, I upgraded till now to 14.5.

2, About "resetting the IOS", I have done it a very long time ago and many times, and I am not sure if I tried "Erase All Content and Settings", but I clearly remembered I definitely tried "Reset All Settings" on my phone.

3, I get in the car and paired the stereo via Bluetooth so I can play music right? When I was done and get out of the car it disconnected from the car's Bluetooth right? And then occurs the issue. As for "What happens when you press the Lock button on the side of your iPhone while paired with your car stereo", it just locks the phone, nothing weird happens.

4, I have not another car to test, but it does not happen with other Bluetooth, like headphones whatnot. My wife uses iPhone 11, and she does not have a problem with paring my car's Bluetooth.

I know what I need to do is probably "Erase All Content and Settings" to set it as a new device and upgrade it to the latest version of IOS, but it just too much for me right now. My content is huge, very time-consuming, and my device is too old to upgrade.

I guess what I want is to report this problem to Apple, giving them a heads-up. If it is valid, maybe there is something that needs to take a look at.

I definitely will "Erase All Content and Settings" to test it out, but it will be the time when I am getting a new iPhone.

Hi CarlAVII,

Guess what, I use a new phone(XS) to test it out and found the problem is that every time I connected to my car's Bluetooth, it secretly turns on my "AssistiveTouch", and "AssistiveTouch" keeps simulating tapping and that keeps auto-lock failure. Although the same situation happens to my old phone(X) is that I set "AssistiveTouch" -> "Always Show Menu" to false, so I have not to notice that.

In conclusion, my car's Bluetooth turns "AssistiveTouch" on and keeps simulating the "tap" action.

Is there any way can I avoid this from happenning?
