Phone stuck on sync

Backed up iPhone to MBP. Then as usual, made a change in audiobooks, clicked sync. that was 30' ago.

since then only moving barber pole and legend, "syncing (Step 4 of 5) - Reading Photo Library." On sync, I have it set to sync only 3 folders in Photos, and content so those hasn't change in 2 years. Still stuck and moving barber pole. Clicked Skip Photos, many times. Uncliced sync photos, at all. Force quit, actually Relauch Finder several times. Unconnected phone from computer. Nothing stops sync, same moving barber pole and legend. Now for 45 minutes.

I didn't see much new in linked page. I don't want to use Cloud. Since one of the things I sync is Contacts and couple of years ago a sync with Cloud, added a duplicate set of contacts. I was out country and it was month before could undo, and by my Contacts has been messed up. Really doesn't work well, spinning wheel, freezes, stops in middle of adding new contacts, drops everything entered and add new contact to end as a No Name contact. I delete a long list of those every now and then. As you know the duplicate Contacts on syncing with Cloud has lots of posts.

But I did turn on and off and unplug. It stop syncing. But as a test, in Photos, I added 3 photos to the only 3 folders I sync to phone, connected phone to MBP, and tried to sync. Same problem. It's been going as I write this. And the 3 photos have not been synced to phone. fortunately, sync on other than Photos seems to work. Added 2 audiobooks to and remove another from phone. So, problem seems to in Photos.

When started, I clicked sync, which I always do after saving iPhone to MBP. No new photos were being linked. Sync was mostly to do Contacts and calendar. but sync got, and gets stuff, on "Reading Photos library." Don't know how that works, but assume it must go through all photos to see if I select some to be synced. Since then I'd tried to add 2 or 3 photos to the 3 folder in Photos that are checked to sync. My MBP is to store most photos; I only sync a very few to iPhone, and I set up 3 folders solely for this purpose. I have also tried to uncheck the sync on any photos. That doesn't work, but the sync had already started.

In fact, now even after I unplug phone from MBP and then reconnect, as soon as I open Finder and click on phone, the syncing is going and I see the spinning barber pole. It's locked in.

I will disconnect, then restart MBP, and reconnect iPhone to see if sync still going. If not then will uncheck all sync of photos and see what happens.

At least learned one way to stop the continued syncing of Photos. Restart computer. Did it, plugged phone back in add, syncing stop. could backup phone, uncheck box on photos to sync selected photos. and then sync rest. Sync worked. checked couple of contacts to confirm that new info in contacts in MBP had been added to iPhone.

Then I clicked sync selected photos and sync. Spinning harbor pole. again only 3 folders selected. total maybe 50 photos All photos are web sized (72ppi x 900px). And the 3 I added to those folders to see if they get sync to phone, are not on iPhone even though this is about the 10th time I've tried.

In sum, if I include Photos in a sync, I get sync that can't be stopped ("Syncing (Step 4 of 5) Reading Photos library"). If I stop this be unplugging phone from computer, no photos are in fact synced to phone.
