rajasekar: It won't show up and isn't relevant to resolving this issue. It's enabled from a computer.
Colin: If you can't put it into recovery mode because of broken buttons, contact Apple Support. If you can but it doesn't appear in iTunes, click here.

Not only is my iPod touch 4th Gen "Disabled" but I cannot get the Home button to work and the option to even try a possible Passcode does not appear. I have it connected to iTunes on Mac OS X 10.11.6 but they do not seem to communicate though they are USB connected.
Any ideas?
Apple support couldn’t help - the 4th Generation iPod is too old. They gave me details of 5 + ok appleshops who may be able to help. One was in Gibraltar! That’s a long way from here!
I checked another and their basic price from their website was <the price of a new iPod touch in $ converted at exchange rate to £.
I have concluded I will get more out of my iPhone 4 at no cost!
sad to let the iPod go but Apple support for the first time since I bought my first Apple ][ in 1977 sad to say they were useless!

Follow the instructions in the Related Article above, except that the process of putting it into recovery mode may be different; the iPod touch link will give the specific steps.

Hi Niel,
thanks for the response. I could see the itune logo and the charging pin on the iPod screen.. but couldn’t have the AppStore link on the top of the screen. Any reason for that?
