How to show fewer rows of blank swatches in color picker? I seem to remember that there weren't so many rows originally....

If you pass your mouse between the empty cell panel and the last row of pencils, you will see a sizing icon. Drag downwards to increase the pencil view and reduce the size of the color swatch matrix. You can also grab the lower-right corner of the color chooser and reduce its overall size by dragging in a NW direction.
