To ensure that the no one can access the content stored in my phone, what steps should I take before sending it to the store for battery replacement?

If you are bring it just for battery replacement and you are waiting for it you don’t have to do anything. Just opening up the phone to replace the battery does not make any of your data accessible. But you should still back it up in case something goes wrong.
