Depending on various details (vintage of your portable mac build model &

year) there may be an ability to replace a built-in or user-removable battery.

A best bet would be to get an AASP or Apple Store genius visit, for an

appraisal of condition status & an estimate; + sometimes there's a fee.

(And there will be a charge ~ unless the product has an AppleCare plan.)

An older MacBook, Air/ Pro/ has a variety of issues or problems against a

novice non-tech tampering within an Apple device. A skilled Apple tech

has better chance at minimal additional problems, than a DIY service.

Some better choices for those with repair experience & attention to detail

are available in battery replacements from OWC and third-party sources.

For all the additional problems an un-trained DIY attempt can cause, it's not

worth extra costs; also note if there is an issue with DIY, Apple won't fix it.
