Reset end to end encryption

My old iPhone died. I got a new iPhone X but now my iPad won’t sync with it and it’s asking for an asked phone password that I don’t have. The only other option is to reset and to end encryption, which I’m afraid will lose all of my pictures and data on my iPad. I don’t think I have ever backed up my iPad to iCloud. How can I check to see?

Hello highcotton,

To get started, we'd like to know a bit more about exactly what's going on. When you say that your iPad and iPhone are not syncing, do you mean things like Photos, Notes, or Reminders are not showing up on both devices, your username and passwords are not syncing correctly, or something else?

We ask because most syncing is done through iCloud and resetting your iPad may not be needed. That said, if this is related to iCloud Keychain, you may need to reset Keychain. Doing that wouldn't remove your apps and data, but would remove your saved usernames and passwords.

If you can tell us more about the issue, we can get you headed in the right direction. If you're seeing an error message, let us know the exact message you're seeing.

Cheers!
