hotos sequence goes wrong when I download them from camera memory card to my Mac.

Photos jumbles up the sequence of my pictures when I download them from the camera memory card to my laptop. IOW, it will start in the middle morning's shoot, download the pics I shot at 8AM, then download the pictures from 7AM and then from 9AM. Why? (I shoot a couple of hundred every day.)

It didn't used to do this. Did I inadvertently click on some button somewhere?

Try the following:

1 - As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos from your caner and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? This tells us if the problem is limited to your current library or is more wide spread. Then try again in your current library.

2 - if the problem persists in the test library log into a basic admin user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac create a test library, import again from the camera and see if the problem persists. This tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide.

3 - If the problem does not appear in your other account go back to your account, boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and repeat Step #1 to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to nearly twice as long as a normal boot as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

The Imports window view sorts the photos by oldest date added.

Once downloaded they can be viewed in the Photos library in chronological order with oldest on top in the Photos view. The sort order for the other views are shown in this screenshot;

Or if you create a smart album like this

you can sort them any way you'd like, i.e. chronological (increasing or decreasing) or alphanumerical (increasing or decreasing).

Old Toad,

I guess pictures would help. Good idea. 2 screen shots from this morning. You can see in the sort, the first images are daylight and the next were before daylight. As I said, jumbled.

The second shot is my "View". Interestingly, "Keep Sorted By Oldest Date Ordered" is check *and* grayed out.

By the way, I shot 3 videos in the middle of this morning's shoot and it sequenced them first. I have no idea why. I don't fool around with settings as a normal rule. It used to just put them in the sequence I shot them.

I appreciate your time and effort.

It probably only matters to me, Tony. But hey, that's just me, right?

Once I have a way that works, I don't like changing. And I don't like a program (or programmers) changing it for me. But that's just me. Your mileage my vary.

I like to spend my day taking pictures, not trying to learn how a computer operates. But thank you for your interest. Have a nice day!

Hi

The question is, why does it matter. You are looking in the imports folder.

If you look in the library, you will see all your images in date order.

Or you can create a smart album with the condition date added - is in the last - x - days, where x can be any number of days 1, 2, 356

and sort that in date order.

The imports folder is mainly usefull for seeing what you have imported in one import session - useful, for example, if you want to delete everything from a particular import if it didn't go as planned.
