Why is iPhone using my camera and mic? Who is listening to me and watching me and why?

I just read an article that says the way our phones are set up, even if we aren’t talking about some thing with a friend, when we’re at that friends house they know that we are there. So if that friend has been looking at something online, then suddenly you also will be seeing ads for that product. It’s freaking creepy

So what are you doing when your phone “says” the mic and camera are in use? How is it telling you?
When you make a phone call the mic will be in use. It would be a very unrewarding experience for the person at the other end otherwise. When you take photos the camera will be in use, also when you make any kind of video call, on FaceTime or WhatsApp for example, the camera and mic will be in use.
No-one is watching you or listening to you.

You’ve apparently never been a domestic violence survivor??? YES ITS POSSIBLE AND SOMEONES WATCHING US I KNOW I DONT DO THIS look it’s on mine too and was there 5 mins gone orange dot I’m locked out of things ppl are fucking with me it is possible and you’re wrong
Why then do I have so many friends who say that after sitting and talking with friends (NOT over the phone) they immediately start getting on-line adds about what they were talking about? How can that happen if someone/something is not listening all the time?

Unless your phone has been jailbroken, no one is listening to you are monitoring you through your camera. If there is an app that is using your camera or microphone and you don't want it to, revoke its access in Settings>Privacy.
However, you will still see the indicators when you use your phone or your camera or Facetime.
