Dashboard Widgets

I just updated to Big Sur from Mojave and found the alias for Dashboard (widgets overlay) kept in my dock no longer works. It seems to have been replaced with an iPhone-is control center. That's fine and handy but there were widgets (file extension .wdgt) I used for work that I would like to continue using. I see that they still exist in my ~Library folder. However, they do not automatically open in the new control center. And the old Dashboard application seems to have been eliminated. I don't see it anywhere on the disk --not even in the System Library folders. Is there a way to convert or import the .wdgt files into the new control center? Thank you.

The Dashboard widgets that Apple has offered since 2005 in OS X Tiger were eliminated with the release of macOS Catalina. Apple has introduced "widgets" in Big Sur via System Preferences > Extensions, by pressing F6 or clicking in the top-right corner of the menubar. These are not the same, or same functionality as the Dashboard widgets and the latter are not coming back.
