if you are on m1 Mac I get this error if I attempt to use home-brew in a Rosetta terminal, but I have installed home brew for the native Apple Silicon. Not sure if it occurs in the reverse, but if you have created a copy of your terminal app to run using Rosetta try using the other version of the terminal.
