Q: Safari can’t connect to the server.

Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.whateveroneitdoesn'twanttotoday.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.whateveroneitdoesn'twanttotoday.com”.

Ever since the upgrade to Safari 5. What's more, the newest update didn't solve the issue. Pages either directly typed in as the URL, or linked to from other sites... there's no rhyme or reason to it. Firefox easily moves to the correct URL and sometimes Safari will to after punching refresh a bunch of times, or restarting Safari. This one's bad... enough to make me change browsers.

Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone, MacBook, 50 Macs under management + Newton, Mac OS X (10.6.4), Newton still works.

Thank you Klaus1.  You're a miracle worker - my MacBook is young and enthusiastic again.

    Same issue here:

    I'm using a Macmini 3,1 bought in early 2010 with System 10.6.8.

All other browsers connect perfectly well to the internet (Firefox, Opera...) as well as my email-client (Thunderbird) and ftp-programs. Only Safari displays its "Safari can't connect to the server" message with any URL. I'm using "Little Snitch" as a firewall but have assigned unlimited rights to connect to any server to Safari (as well as my other browsers).

I've updated to the newest version of Safari (5.1.2) today, but that doesn't change anything. Reading this threat I also checked my DNS settings and saw that they're just as advised by Klaus1. Swapping the order of the DNS addresses doesn't solve my problem...tried this too.

I really need Safari for the process of redesigning my website (and doublechecking it on popular browsers). I'd be really grateful for any other advice of how to solve the issue. Thanks!

Checking Little Snitch Configiration was the fix for me.

For some reason it was set to Deny TCP connections via WebProcess to port 80 (http).

Once that rule was deleted from the Little Snitch Configiration for Safari it all worked fine.

I started having issues with my WiFi not connecting out of sleep mode. The updates was supposed to fix the issue but didn't. From there, I started having issues with Safari functioning with Adobe. For instance, YouYube videos would not play. The final draw was yesterday, Safari started giving me the message "Safari cannot connect to server". I would get this message with any webpage I tried to visit. I then installed Firefox and found that I am able to visit any website on my Mac.

    I'm using:

    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3

    Safari 5.1.5

    This is what I've done:

    I reset Safari: Didn't work

I restarted the Mac: Didn't work

I followed Klaus1's steps and added the following DNS's: Didn't work

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

    4.2.2.1

    4.2.2.2

My final step was to reinstall Safari 5.1.5

Everything now seems to be working. All previous issues are now fixed.

    Correction

WiFi still doesn't connect when my Mac wakes from sleep. I have to turn WiFi off and back on to maintain connection.

I am running Safari on my pc (and have done so for the past 2 yrs), it's only been the last two days i have been getting the 'can't find the server' error message. I've installed the 5.1.5 Safari update which hasn't resolved the problem. I'm also getting the same error messages when using internet explorer and firefox. I know the website's i'm trying to view are running ok as i can view them on my iphone. The only program i have installed during this time was Adobe Illustrator. Can anyone please help me locate the DNS as mentioned above on a pc to see if this resolves the problem, otherwise any other suggestions? Thanks is advance

Little Snitch was the problem for me too.

    Turning it off solved everything.

Now I have to figure out how to get everything working together again...

I'd try the latest Little Snith update at first...

I was having the same problem and after trying a zillion methods...clearing the cache, resetting Safari, even downloading Firefox...something with Key Access...this was the only method that worked for me! Thanks a lot.

    Thank you.

When I am entering Pinterest.com I was getting this message continuously, "safari cannot connect to the server". This problem started before two days ago. Today, I followed your suggestion and solved my Safari's problem.

    Thank you very much.
