MacBook M1 Pro gap between glass and rubber

Hi guys, I’ve visited the apple store today to get a little advice on my screen, which in my opinion, has a larger gap between the glass and the lining on one side than the other. The man told me all MacBooks have the gap, which I understand completely. However, the little gap is starting to niggle at me especially because I can see more dirt and dust gets trapped there on that side. Can anyone provide some advice or support on this? Thanks in advance:)

We are your fellow end users so don't know Apple's reasons unless they publish them. However my engineering eye sees the "why." I just checked a new M1 MBP and it looks exactly the same as your picture. Like yours, the gap is slightly larger at the bottom.

I believe that is deliberate and good engineering for the same reason that big concrete slabs have expansion joints. Without the expansion joints, the concrete will break under the expansion and contraction caused by changes in temperature.

If the screen is fitted to make hard contact with the metal frame and gets hot, it could expand and crack, a US$500 repair. They put that the gap at the bottom where it is least noticeable, and the adhesive holding it has some flex. This fits a basic design tenet: "If you cannot control external variables, design the product to be less affected by them."

That is exactly how I would have designed it.

Personally I would not be concerned.
