I understand auto-deleting text msgs can be set for 30 days, 1 year, or forever. If setting it to delete all but the last year, what happens the next month? Will the 12th month be dropped off to make room for the new month added? Or does it all happen once a year? Will I get a notification when texts are about to be deleted?

In your example of messages dropping after one year, it happens every month. So when messages reach the end of their 12th month, they delete at the beginning of the next month and so and so on.
