iCloud Photos have wrong date/time after download?

Hi-

Now that Google Photos has gone paid, I've just subscribed to iCloud Storage and am learning about all the wondrous and lovely features of iCloud Storage and iCloud Photos.

I take notes on my iPad, then once a month/term/whatever I download them and sort them into projects, weeks, classes, whatever. I do this based on the timestamp and datestamp. It's easy.

I just downloaded my notes for the last few weeks via iCloud.com and find that all of my notes, photos, screen captures, everything occurred at the moment I downloaded them, and not over the course of last month.

That is, all the dates and times are set to the instant they were downloaded, and not when they were taken.

How best can I sort them into days and subjects if I don't have access to the date & time they were taken?

Thanks for anyone who can provide assistance. I find this so weird, but It's probably user error.

Hey there, and welcome to Apple Support Communities, WestVanPete!

We see that you're having some trouble organizing the info synced with iCloud. We'll be happy to partner with you and see how we can help.

To make sure we're on the same page, are you using the Notes and Photos apps on the iPad?

Which iPadOS version are you running?

If possible, can you check on a different device or at iCloud website and see if they show correctly or have the same issue?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers.

Thanks very much.

I'm using the Photos app on the iPad Pro and iCloud Photos to sync my photos with the web.

iOS 14.6.

The problem appears when I download the photos from iCloud.com to my computer. All the date and timestamps are the downloaded date and time, not when the photos were taken. Thing is, I use that information to sort my photos, so having all of my photos dated the same isn't very helpful.

I actually called Apple Support about this and they said there was *no way* to do it. He understood my problem, consulted with a senior advisor and they told me I was out of luck.

I have read that OneDrive doesn't have this problem, so I may try that.

However - if Apple Support was incorrect and if anyone can figure out a way to do this, I'd be very grateful.
