New to Carplay, question about Message notifications, and navigation automatically starting!
Hi all, two questions (yes, I did search, can't find certain answers).
Just got a "new to me" 2018 BMW X3 with Carplay. The salesman was less than informed, and left us with questions:
- Message tones do not seem to play through Carpay, and since Carplay is always connected, I see notifications but do NOT hear any tones. Volume on the phone is up, Media volume on the phone is up. I CAN hear Podcasts and I CAN hear the phone ring... just not Messages! Any ideas??
- When the phone connects, it seems that Waze launches in the background immediately. Issues with that include data usage on my phone AND it keeps running (and draining the battery) in the background when I turn the car off. (I can see the blue "location in use" indicator at the top of the Lock screen, have to open the phone and manually quit Waze each time). I heard rumor that this is because Waze is positioned on the main screen, but not sure if this is true (or how to fix).
- Car: BMW x3 2018 model (was capable of Carplay, enabled by the dealer somewhere along the way.
- Phone: iPhone Xr, latest iOS 14.6
- Connections: Set up Carplay by connecting Bluetooth as directed, then watched as BT in phone disconnected, handing it off to the Wi-Fi (which DOES appear to be connected to the car).
Thanks for your help! I can muddle my way through, but since we have two phones to connect, I need to make sure it works for both!
