Facebook Messenger contacts do not show up in Share Sheet

Hi community,

I was using my partner’s phone earlier today, and noticed that her iOS share sheet shows Messenger contacts in the top row. My share sheet shows WhatsApp groups, Snapchat contacts, Messages contacts etc - but no Facebook messenger.

Is there anything I can do to enable this feature for Messenger? There seems to be a few threads about disabling it, but none about enabling it.

Things I’ve tried:

Rebooting phone

Updating messenger

Completely removing and reinstalling messenger

Disabling and enabling messenger in the share sheet

iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 14

shanebaker92,

Thanks so much for letting us know more.

Just to make sure we're on the same page, does this happen when you try to share any content, or does it only happen when you try to share photos or videos? If this happens when trying to share photos and videos, the "Share photos with Sharing Suggestions" part of the following page may help: Share photos and videos on iPhone

If you go to Settings > Siri & Search > Messenger, is "Learn from this App," and "Show Suggestions from App" enabled? More about Siri Suggestions here: About Siri Suggestions on iPhone

Also, it sounds like your device is running an older iOS version, as iOS 14.6 is the latest version. You may want to try updating. This page outlines how to back up and update: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Take care!

Hello shanebaker92,

It sounds like contacts from the Messenger app aren't appearing in Share Sheet, and we'd like to see how we can help.

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

  1. Have contacts from the Messenger app appeared in Share Sheet previously?
  2. What is the exact iOS version your device is currently running? Find the software version on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod
  3. You mentioned rebooting your iPhone; did you restart it using these steps? Restart your iPhone

In the meantime, you can find some good information about Share Sheet and share sheet types in Shortcuts here: Understanding share sheet types in Shortcuts

Thanks!

Hi Brittany,

Thats correct :)

My current iOS version is 14.5.1 however this has been occurring for years - I have never seen Facebook messenger contacts in the share sheet on my phone, and have noticed it working on others. Seems like a super convenient feature - but apparently not for me!

And yep, I have rebooted using the correct procedure. As this feature has never worked, the phone (and previous iPhones I’ve owned) have undergone many proper reboots without ever seeing this feature.

Hope this helps narrow it down!

Cheers,

Shane

Hey!

So I have updated my phone, and checked the Siri settings for messenger. They were all on, so I toggled them all off, restarted the phone, turned them on again. I noticed that messenger was gone altogether from the share sheet - not even available as an app, or in the list of apps to add to the share sheet.

Still no luck, so I re-installed messenger again after the iOS update. Messenger itself returned to the share sheet, but still no contacts.

Are there any other ideas floating around?

Thanks heaps for your help so far!

Cheers,

Shane
