Charging My Phone when powered off
Why does Apple assume I want to turn my iPhone on when I plug it into a charger? Is this another example of Apple overreach?
iPhone 7, 14

Well, while conspiracies are satisfying, actually it is because the charger is a circuit in the phone, and it requires power to operate. If the phone is not powered on the charger microcircuit (a commercially available "U2 Tristar") can’t do its job because it has no power. However, once the charging has started you can turn off the phone and it will continue charging. This is true of almost all battery powered devices, including all Android phones, cameras, wireless hotspots, etc.

No conspiracy.
It’s more a case that modern iPhones communicate w/ the charger to enable fast charging capability.
if the phone’s electronics are not powered-up, there’s no communications and no fast charging.
Thanks for the feedback. Concur that atticle - while interesting - didn’t necessarily apply.
Point that we were BOTH trying to make is that even the “seemingly” simple aspects of modern electronics are microprocessor-controlled …
… meaning that they must be “on” to function.
It is just the way it is. Just turn your phone off after you plug it in to charge.
There’s a pretty good article about what’s going on “under the hood” here:
It is a good article, but irrelevant for the OP with an iPhone 7 that doesn’t even have wireless charging. But thanks for posting it; I learned from it!
