My OS is OS X 10.6.4

I searched for tutorials on how to back up and they all said left click the iphone under the devices section in iTunes but when i do, there is not "backup" to click on....The options is gives me are:
Eject
New Playlist

Hi, I have an IPhone 3G which was working perfectly until I upgraded 2 weeks ago to 4.0.1. Since then it takes 20mins or more to synchronise, but actually isnt syncrhonising anything in Microsoft Outlook incl. calendar, notes etc, and it no longer communicates with my $3000 Pioneer in car DVD/GPS/bluetooth system. Please can someone create a patch for 3G users who have foolishly upgraded, or give us clues on how to rollback the upgrade? It no longer performs either of the 2 main reasons for having this phone...HELP!

1. Locate your iTunesPrefs.xml file. It’s usually located in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes or C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.
Hint: If the folder Application Data does not show up, make sure that hidden files are visible in the Windows Explorer
2. Backup your iTunesPrefs.xml file
3. Open iTunesPrefs.xml using a capable text-editor (e.g. Notepad++, Ultraedit, but not MS Notepad)
4. Search for a section called User Preferences and delete snipped into the User Preferences Section after the first <dict>:

<key>DeviceBackupsDisabled</key>
<data>
dHJ1ZQ==
</data>

Good Luck !
