Upgrade office 365 for macOS big sur

I have just upgraded to MacOS Big Sur and I am now needing to upgrade my Office 365 personal. I have a subscription but the help keeps directing me to the app store. I want to be sure I am not opening up a second account through the app store, how do I upgrade my office applications?

If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can install the current Office directly from them. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/download-and-install-or-reinstall-microsoft-365-or-office-2019-on-a-pc-or-mac-4414eaaf-0478-48be-9c42-23adc4716658

If the version you currently installed will start and run, you can run Word and use the Help menu in Word to Check For Updates, but I suspect that you may have a version that won't start and run with Big Sur. In that case you will need to use the previously supplied instructions to install the current version.
