To unlock your car, hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the car's door handle.

To start your car, place your iPhone in the car's key reader, or hold your Apple Watch near the reader. Then press the car's start button.

I called BMW today and if you can believe it you are absolutely right to be able to start a BMW with your Apple Watch you have to take your watch off and put it in the ashtray where the NFC reader is.

This is the solution to starting the car with your Apple Watch. Crazy but true. The BMW genius told me that this is an Apple problem because Apple should make the watch transmit the signal better. I pointed out that it would be more logical for BMW to have placed a reader somewhere more convenient than in the ashtray.

Naturally I only found out this piece of information once I spent $800 on a new Apple Watch series 6.
