Does anyone know if iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015) running Sierra can be upgraded/updated to High Sierra or later?

Well, it doesn't matter which one of your posts you refer to - the information regarding needing to upgrade to 10.13 first in order to upgrade to Big Sur is simply not correct.
Here are the published requirements for Big Sur from Apple. The minimum OS is 10.9 which is obviously older than 10.13.
Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and click on High Sierra, Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur.

For Note:
To go past High Sierra (Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur), you have to upgrade to High Sierra first, then proceed with the upgrade to any of those three.

You have me wondering if I may be mis-comprehending(so-to-speak) the OP. I am comprehending it as though they want to know with which macOS it is compatible with. So, what I’m getting at is to install the macOS one-by-one (as they work their way up with the macOS version chain, later-and-later). And then stop once incompatibility comes about.

No it isn’t. You’ve posted this information before even though the question was different and it is still incorrect - sorry. the point is that it is obviously compatible with anything up to and including big Sur. You are very clearly saying that one needs to upgrade to HS before proceeding higher - which is wrong.
If that were the case, then why does Apple not include that information in their release notes?
Why does Apple say that the minimum is 10.9 rather than 10.12 or 10.13?
Or why have I not had a problem going from Sierra directly to BS?
I prefer such important information to come from the source.

I upgraded straight from Sierra to big sur.
In technical terms Yes it can go Sierra to Big Sur but the HS Upgrade would better position the computer with updates of Boot ROM for the eventual move to Big Sur
