Do app developers see device model?
Hey!
I know every app developer sees your device ID, but I was wondering if they can see the actual device model you’re using their app from. And do they see your apple ID as well?

You’ve got it backwards. Developers can only see your general model type, such as iPad and iPhone, and only then as aggregate totals. Developers can never see your device ID and never your Apple ID.
Here is what developers can see: https://developer.apple.com/app-store/measuring-app-performance/
There is a difference between what developers see and what users see. Developers may see "a" device ID and "an" Apple ID, but they will always be anonymous, unique codes, not the real ones. A developer could tell that two devices are different, or two users are different, but they don't know the actual identifiers that you see. This is all for privacy reasons. It isn't just Apple that does this either.
Most users don't know this. So it is common for people to send us their e-mails, Apple IDs, or maybe PayPal transaction IDs and ask questions about their activity. They then get annoyed when we tell them that all of that information is useless. We can't see anything or the values that we see are entirely different.
If you are working with a developer using Test Flight or something, it may be different. For beta distributions like this, your actual device ID might be required.

The only way for an app developer to see the user’s Apple ID is if the user voluntarily sends it to them. Users should never, ever do that, under any circumstances.
Moreover, they can take advantage of this for unfavorable purposes. For example: Subscribe, which is difficult to cancel and then need to request a refund. But support works for them quickly, in most cases the user is right - It’s okay.
In Apple’s App Stores, it is only Apple that can manage subscriptions or processes refunds. Developers have no access to any personal or financial transactions or information. Any developer who says they have some power over subscriptions or refunds is trying to scam you.
Thanks!
I asked it because someone I know is an app developer and they asked me how I opened their app from the same device using multiple device IDs (I had reset the phone, and resetting gives you a new device ID). I am still unsure how they understood that I used different device IDs on the same device though.
Thank you so much! You couldn’t have been more helpful!
Yep. It’s true.
