Messages app not working

Ever since I updated my phone to 14.5.1 I have been unable to use my messages app on my phone. Every time I open the app it’s either stuck on a white screen or i am unable to open any conversations. I only receive messages either delayed or hours later, meaning I have to open my mac and reply from there. I have tried restarting my phone and closing and opening the app several times and would prefer not to wipe the app to get it to work.
