I am sick of Microsoft! Trying to switch to Apple but can't afford much. Looking for recommendations for laptops in the $300 range. Is refurbished important? Thanks for any info.

Try to find good conditioned used MacBook Air at eBay or similar services.
At that price for an Apple laptop, refurbished models will
end up being so old they are will no longer have any support
for macOS updates or upgrades to the current macOS. You
may find a private seller, but if they are selling anything 2014
or newer at that price, like the saying goes, "If it sounds too
good to be true, it usually isn't."
