Weak sound and/or crackling noise when recording guitar on iPad mini

I have recently encountered weak and crackling/distorted sound when recording electric guitar on my iPad mini (5th gen).

I am quite convinced that it must be iOS related. The reason for this assumption is that it occurs when using both standalone guitar amp simulating apps such as Bias FX, Bias FX 2, AmpliTube, MobilePOD as well as GarageBands integrated amp simulator.

The different sound cards that I use are Apogee Jam (1st gen) and PreSonus AudioBox iOne and they both work brilliantly with an old iPad Air (1st gen).

I have ruled out that there should be a problem with the lightning port since I do not not hear any crackling when record voice memos or if I am listening to audio in general.

Is there anybody out there that have encountered the same problem and knows how to solve it?

It looks like you've taken some great isolation steps to try and resolve this audio issue. Can you confirm that the software on your iPad is completely up to date with the latest iOS? If not, we recommend following the steps int he article below to be sure your device is updated.

Thank you for the response i_rina,

For your information I am on iPadOS 14.6 and all my apps are updated.

Based on the fact that other people seem to have the same or similar problems, both on iPads and iPhones, I cannot other than assume that it is an OS-problem.

AmpliTube: Weak sound, distorted, limited stereo

Bias FX 2: Weak slightly delayed sound, distorted, limited stereo

Mobile POD: Crackling and static noise

Overloud TH-U: Intermittent crackling

GE Labs: Weak slightly delayed sound, distorted, limited stereo
