My mail app is taking up 50.05GB of space on my hard drive. I disconnected the email account, but there was no movement on the amount of storage space the app is taking up. I then tried to delete the app, but it seems impossible. Can anyone help?

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand the Mail app is taking up about 50 GB of space, and we'd like to help. In the Mail app, choose Mailbox > Erase Junk Mail. If you no longer need the email in your Trash mailbox, choose Mailbox > Erase Deleted Items.

Thank you so much for your response. Sorry I've only just seen it as it went to my iCloud account.
I have erased all of my junk mail and trash and do this on a daily basis. It makes no difference. My mail is still taking up 50.06 gb of storage space on my MacBook. I'm perplexed. Any other suggestions?
