Android requires upgraded hardware for each update it does as well. That being said, Samsung usually gives you one, maybe two, updates before it's no longer able to update anymore because the hardware isn't supported. They also pick and choose which phones they will give the updates and some of them don't even get the ability to update at all past the installed version of OS that is installed on it. The hardware in the iPhone 6 just is not capable of running the newest version of iOS. Just like computers, the hardware requirements become higher and higher with each update of OS that you put on it.

Did you honestly think a phone released now 8 years ago, would be able to run the newest iOS versions forever? If you did, that's honestly an unrealistic expectation. Your phone received updates for a full 5 years, which by the way is longer than Samsung phones receive. So, if you think Samsung will do a better job of keeping your phone current longer than Apple, you'd be completely wrong.
