Two-factor authentication email cannot be verified

My iPhone just did a software update and is now requiring 2-factor identification via the email address associated with my Apple ID. When I enter my email address, it says "this email address cannot be verified" and won't let me move on or get into my phone. Why would my email address not be verifiable? What can I do about this?

I am required to sign in with Apple ID on my iPhone 8 to see mail The need to fetch a verification code from another device renders mail useless when I am away from my computers with only my phone. Must I turn off two-factor authentication to beat this?

two factor verification Why can't I turn this option off? I went from a apple phone back to my blackberry 2 and can't get my iCloud email on it because of this. I go to the security settings and I do not have the option to turn it off. There has to be a way around it! Someone please help!
