Hi Lewis Kopp,

Welcome time to the Apple Community, where some of us do our best to help each other.

You might need to find the Year your MacBook Pro was made, and the Operating System Version you have now

(This info. can be viewed from Apple icon on the left in the top Menu Bar > About this Mac.)

It seems MacBook Pro models from late 2013 and newer can run the latest version of macOS.

If your Mac isn't compatible with the latest macOS, you might still be able to upgrade to an earlier macOS,

such as macOS Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra or El Capitan

Wondering if you noticed there's a "Related Article" Link from Apple Support, above your question in this discussion page. The article can help identify your Mac.

The article below contains info. about the compatibility of the Operating systems:

Apple recommends that you always use the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac:

Hope this helps you :)

There is very limited usefulness for that antique.

• MacBook Pro (17-inch) 2nd build of series

Introduced April 2006

Discontinued October 2006

Model Identifier MacBookPro1,2

Model Number A1151

EMC 2102

Order Number MA092LL/A

Maximum Memory 2.0 GB

Memory Slots 2 - 200-pin PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 SO-DIMM

Original OS Mac OS X 10.4.6 (8I2032)

• Maximum OS Mac OS X 10.6.8

Hardware Test AHT 3A105

Could see an upgrade from original Tiger 10.4.6

to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. ~ Or maybe run some

version of ubuntu or linux for Mac hardware.

Two retail versions above 10.4.6 official DVD can upgrade Intel-mac

(10.5.x Leopard/Snow 10.6.3) beyond 'grey-label' Tiger; could work.
