What are you trying to update?

What to Try:

A. Create a New User

Create a new user, and see if you can then update.

B. Install in Safe Mode:

I would assume booting in Safe Mode and updating it that way may work (because in Safe Mode, items only load as they would be default). To boot into Safe Mode, hold down the shift ky upon boot.

C. Learn from This:

Did you have a Time Machine Backup of your Mac that you created prior to attempting this update? If so, restore from it. If not, then take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a Time Machine backup of your Mac prior to making any major change to is (i.e. macOS upgrade), so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the upgrade.
