How to call from macbook pro

I have a MacBook Pro running OS El Capitan 10.11.6. What is the best way to make a phone call from the computer.? I used to be able to with my Gmail account. But they have discontinued that service.

That depends on the type of call you want to make.

You can make FaceTime Calls to other users of Apple devices: link->Use FaceTime on Mac - Apple Support

You can make calls over VoIP apps like Skype, Zoom, Google Voice etc... to other users of those services.

If you want to make cellular voice calls to iPhone and Android users, then you need a paired iPhone and Continuity for that: link-> Make and receive calls on your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
