Duplicate Contact listings

How do I remove these duplicate contact listings and equally important, how do I prevent them from happening in the future?

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

Please see the following article on how to remove duplicate contacts on your Mac: If you see duplicate contacts after setting up iCloud Contacts - Apple Support


There are no foolproof ways of preventing this in the future. Duplicates contacts can emerge from:

  1. iCloud synchronization
  2. Contacts from other email accounts


in case #1, your only step is to remove the duplicates as shown in the above link. In case #2, you may choose to merge those duplicate contacts into one single contact if they share the same name; This functionality should be on by default, though.

If they are groups see the article Delete groups and Smart Groups in Contacts on Mac - Apple Support

In your screen shot the arts and crafts , apple are repeated keep on holding shift key click on first card and keep on clicking on repeating cards , they will be selected / highlighted right click on them and click on delete cards .
