currently, iTunes purchases do NOT qualify to be upgraded to Lossless or Hi-Res Lossless audio files. So any of your past purchases you can remove from your downloads and re-add them using Apple Music. you wont have duplicate files, but it may make your library more confusing.
One approach i removed all downloads (including purchases), and created a separate playlist/folder specifically for Music Lossless and added all new lossless tracks and albums there as to not interfere with my main library.
Brother just sign out your id from media & purchase it will delete all download songs but your playlist remain as it is . After few minute sign in again and put your playlist in download . It will download in his-res automatically.
One additional question...
Since most of my content in my Apple Music account is purchased from iTunes, by downloading the Apple lossless version from Apple Music do I lose the benefit of ownership enjoyed by the fact that I own my purchased content currently loaded?
Thanks for getting back with us on this, kabf1. Incorporating your personal music collection into your Apple Music library that has other songs you've downloaded (by being an Apple Music subscriber) will not be an issue. You retain all Apple Music benefits as long as you remain a paid subscriber.
My concern is actually in the opposite direction. If I replace my current iTunes 'purchased' files that are in my Apple Music account, do I lose them if I replace them with the new Apple Lossless files if I were to discontinue my subscription to Apple Music? I would like the benefit of keeping my purchased iTunes files as I have paid several thousands of dollars for those files over the years, but would like the benefit of playing the lossless versions of them. But if for any reason I were to have to cancel my subscription to Apple Music my fear is that I have now lost my purchased iTunes content.
And what if I haven’t downloaded a song that is lossless in theory but it’s not saved as lossless in my library, like shown below?
